Merlefest

So Merlefest 2011 has come and gone.  We had a good time and like usual at this show Autumn did well and lots of ladies bought clothes.  This is a dry show, meaning no alcohol allowed on the premises.  It is very family and teenager oriented.  Packs of high school students roam the festival for the entire weekend.  Hardcore bluegrass fans also attend, and due to the reserve seating situation, mostly sit.  No dancing allowed.  Not even a little.    This Bluegrass fest is the polar opposite of Telluride Bluegrass  in more ways than one.  Anyway,  during Robert Plant's Band of Joy set, the levy finally broke during his last song and the Zep fans stood up and danced.  I think it made Robert Plant happy.

The Tim Obrien Band on the Watson Stage Sunday afternoon.
Tim on the Watson Stage.

Alison Brown jammin on the banjo while rocking the Reva coat on the Cabin Stage.

Again with the Reva on.

Autumn during Tim Obrien's  set.

Robert Plant during The Band of Joy set.  What a killer show this was. We will look forward to seeing this again at Telluride Bluegrass.

The great Darrell Scott playing with The Band of Joy.
So we just got done rock climbing at Looking Glass Rock, near Brevard, North Carolina.  That will be the next post.  This weekend we will be at LEAF in Black Mountain NC.  The Lake Eden Arts Festival is a great one.
